Service Description
The Introduction to Rat Sports Class is appropriate for both dogs and handlers that are new to dog sports as well as those who have experience in other dog sports. Rat sports are particularly suitable for those with little to no dog sport experience as they tap into dogs’ natural instincts and the lower levels are fairly simple. There are mainly two organizations that host rat sports and the events are very different for each of the organizations. We will introduce dogs to both rat sport types. In six weeks we will briefly cover the following: Brief introduction to scent theory Barn Hunt: Trial classes and basic handling skills Introduce dogs to a rat in a rat tube Evaluate each dog’s natural indications and help dogs to indicate Introduce dogs to a distractor tube Do simple searches Compare & Contrast BH & NASDA (Urban Locating) Urban Locating/Challenge Games Trial classes and basic handling skills Introduce dogs to a rat in a quarry box Introduce dogs to a false quarry box Introduce dogs to distractors Perform indoor and outdoor searches Instructor: Cathy Leavitt (https://www.k9ratpack.com) Dogs have to be up to date on their parvo/distemper/rabies and we require to see proof.
