Service Description

Lost Item Recovery Knows to the Nose Level 2 helps handlers and their dogs advance their odor detection skills. This course will focus on the recovery of lost items testing the dog’s ability to discriminate handler scent. The course will focus on preparing students to prepare video submissions for the North American Sports Dog Association’s (NASDA) Lost Item Recovery online titling program. At the end of the course handler and canine teams will have completed the four required runs captured on video for submission to NASDA. Teams meeting all of NASDA’s requirements will be eligible for a Lost Item Recovery I title. Class requirements: Handlers are required to bring a crate or exercise pen for their dog as well as one or more sheets (or other coverings) for the crate or pen. All participants must use a fixed length leash, preferably 10 to 12 feet long. It is highly recommended that dogs wear a harness with a back clip. Choke chains, prong collars and electronic shock collars are explicitly prohibited. Handlers will need to bring a total of four items to the class. Each item should only be scented only by the handler and brought in individual Ziploc bags or containers. A list of items required by NASDA will be sent to registrants prior to the first class session. Pre-requisites: Completion of Knows to the Nose Level 1. Level 2 nose work is a six week class, we meet at 4:15pm on the following Sundays: (No Class Sunday August 13th) Sunday July 16th, Sunday July 23, Sunday July 30th, Sunday August 6th and Sunday August 20th and Sunday August 27th. A Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA), Vicki Huebner, has been working with dogs since the early 1990s. She teaches obedience and sports classes. In addition to the CPDT-KA certification, she is a professional member of the APDT, and an AKC CGC Certified Examiner. She currently competes with her current dog, Jewel in the odor detection sports including nose work, trailing and locating, antler shed and lost item recovery. She employs only the most modern, dog-friendly (and people-friendly) training methods, adhering to the CCPDT Code of Ethics. Payment information for class materials fee.
