Service Description

This class focuses on the sport of shed hunting. Dogs are asked to identify and find a shed antler in an outdoor location. The class will dedicate a serious effort to building retrieval skills using positive reinforcement methods. Weather permitting, the class will periodically conduct field trips to practice in outdoor settings. This class is designed to prepare canine teams to compete in level 1 and 2 NASDA shed dog trials. Teams must meet all of NASDA’s requirements to be eligible for Lost Item Recovery or Shed Dog titles. "Out of an abundance of caution, there will be no sharing of sheds (antlers). Handlers must bring their own shed (an antler) and Dog Bone's antler wax scent to all classes. Sheds can be purchased on Etsy or eBay and shed training aids are sold through Bass Pro Shops. Your shed (antler) should have 3 to 4 prongs and not be so heavy your dog can not pick it up. You can purchase antler wax scent from Bass Pro Shops. The antler scent is shaped like a deodorant stick. These purchases are generally available only through online delivery. Leave enough time to purchase training aids in advance of the first class." With the canine respiratory disease present, NASDA and other sporting organizations are making modifications to try to prevent disease transmission and not sharing articles is one of them. I figure this is also good practice for us. Let me know if you have any questions. A Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA), Vicki Huebner, has been working with dogs since the early 1990s. She teaches obedience and sports classes. In addition to the CPDT-KA certification, she is a professional member of the APDT, and an AKC CGC Certified Examiner. She currently competes with her current dog, Jewel in the odor detection sports including nose work, trailing and locating, antler shed and lost item recovery. She employs only the most modern, dog-friendly (and people-friendly) training methods, adhering to the CCPDT Code of Ethics.
